The third seed Indian pair defeated the second seed pair of Max Mirnyi and Daniel Nestor to win the Sony Ericsson Open.

Paes-Bhupathi won 6-7(5), 6-2, 10-5 and became the World Number 1 doubles players ahead of the Bryan brothers.

mplp
This is their second title of the year after they had the Chennai Open.

“The key [to us winning] was just fighting as a team. Like Leander said, we didn’t play our best match of the week. All four of us were tentative in the beginning,” said Bhupathi.

“It’s still early for us. The season is broken down into four segments – this is just the first of them. If we’re still No. 1 after the US Open, then we’ll start getting excited,” said Bhupathi.

It was a tough game for the Indian pair as they found the going tough in the first set but bounced back in the second set and took the third set without giving their opponents any chance.

A day after India's historic World Cup triumph, captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was on Sunday spotted with a new look, with his head clean shaven.

Dhoni was seen with a completely new look during an official photo-op session in front of the iconic Gateway of India, where some members of the Indian cricket team posed for shutterbugs with World Cup Trophy.

Speculation doing the rounds is that he kept his mannat to shave his head if India wins the World Cup.

Incidentally, Dhoni had cut his long locks after India won the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa in 2007.

India go down to South Africa in Nagpur thriller

Nagpur: India paid a heavy price for a stunning batting collapse as South Africa held their nerves to pull off a thrilling three-wicket victory in a World Cup Group B encounter.

India go down to South Africa in Nagpur thriller

Sachin Tendulkar's blistering 111 went in vain as India suffered an inexplicable batting collapse by losing nine wickets for a mere 29 runs to fold up for 296 in 48.4 overs after electing to bat. The South Africans overcame some anxious moments before rattling up the target with two balls to spare at the VCA Stadium at Jamtha.

The Proteas needed 13 runs off paceman Ashish Nehra's last over but tail ender Robin Peterson swung the game in their favour by hitting a four and a six in the first two balls to take his team home in a pulsating game which saw fortunes fluctuating from one team to the other till the last over. Peterson took two from the third ball of the last over before hitting the winning runs -- a boundary -- to take South Africa to 300 for seven in 49.4 overs as the packed stadium was stunned to pin drop silence.

For India, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh took three for 53 from his nine overs while paceman Munaf Patel got two wickets for 65 from his 10 overs. With the win today, South Africa have brightened their chances of making to the quarterfinals with six points from four matches and the two remaining matches coming up against Bangladesh and Associate nation Ireland.

Despite the loss, India, who are virtually in the quarterfinals before today's match, still top Group B with seven points from five matches. They play West Indies in Chennai on March 20 in their last league match.

The bulk of blame for India's loss should be taken by the batsmen as they undid all the hardwork done by Tendulkar (111 from 101 balls) as they were comfortably placed at 267 for one in the 40th over. Starting the run chase, South African openers Graeme Smith and Hashim Amla began on a cautious note as they added 41 runs before Zaheer Khan dismissed his 'bunny'. It was not a good delivery as it was pitched wide but the South African captain went for a drive and was holed out to Tendulkar at mid-off.

In-form Amla, in company of Jacques Kallis (69 off 88 balls), then carried on in a business-like manner. They ran the singles well pushing it into the gaps and punished the occasional loose balls. Kallis was the dominant of the two in their 85-run second wicket stand. Amla, who looked solid during his innings of 72-ball 61, was dismissed when Harbhajan got one to bounce and turn enough to kiss the edge and Mahendra Singh Dhoni took the catch gleefully.

Kallis was joined by AB de Villiers (52 of 39 balls) and just when they looked like conjuring up a partnership of significance, the veteran batsman fell short of his ground while trying to complete a second run. Harbhajan's flat throw from deep square leg went right into Dhoni's gloves before whipping the bails in a flash.

India go down to South Africa in Nagpur thriller

The turning point of the match was, however, the dismissal of de Villiers (52 of 39 balls). De Villiers, who has scored two hundreds in the tournament, cut loose along with JP Duminy (23) as they hit some innovative shots, knocking down 52 runs during five overs of batting Power play. de Villiers, who batted with a runner later in his innings, became Harbhajan's 250th ODI scalp when his slog sweep was smartly taken by Virat Kohli in the deep. The off-spinner then removed Duminy as Dhoni managed to stump him after fumbling initially.

Earlier, Tendulkar slammed a blistering 111 before India suffered a stunning batting collapse. So inexplicable was the batting collapse that it even overshadowed Tendulkar's 99th international ton and his involvement in two century partnerships for first two wickets. Till Tendulkar (111, 100 balls, 8x4, 3x6) was around, 350 was very much on cards but once he was dismissed, the other Indian batsmen were in a mood to commit hara-kiri.

It was irresponsible batting by the likes of Yusuf Pathan (0), Yuvraj Singh (12), Kohli (1) as the track was one of the flattest in the country. Skipper Dhoni (12 not out) haplessly watched from the other end as wickets fell in a heap. The much talked about batting power play that has thrown quite a few surprises in the tournament saw Indians losing four wickets for just 30 runs as South African bowlers made a strong comeback after being hammered for the better part of the first 40 overs.

From being 267 for one in 39.3 overs, the packed crowd couldn not believe when Dale Steyn took his fifth wicket (5 for 50) to bowl the hosts out for less than 300. However it wasn't the way Indians started their innings. They were off the blocks in a flash after Dhoni elected to bat.

After a couple of patchy performances against the associates, Tendulkar rose to the occasion against a Protean attack, which didn't have an answer to his swift yet brutal assault. It was his 48th hundred in ODIs and sixth in the World Cup history.
With the dangerous Virender Sehwag (73, 66 balls, 12x4) also in a murderous mood, the duo added 142 runs for the opening wicket in only 107 balls to lay the foundation for a big total.

Tendulkar also had a 125-run second wicket partnership with Gautam Gambhir (69, 75 balls, 7x4), who wasn't exactly at his fluent best. As Sehwag butchered the bowling, Tendulkar's innings was all about grace, even while scoring at a pace of more than run-a-ball. The back drive off Morne Morkel was hit straight and easily qualified as the best shot of the day.
When Dale Steyn, coming back for his second spell dug one short, the maestro positioned himself perfectly for a hook shot over deep backward square leg.

When the spinners came in, Tendulkar came down the track to whip Robin Peterson past mid-on for a boundary. Although Sehwag reached his half century first, it was Tendulkar who achieved the mini milestone in 33 balls to Sehwag's 44. The highest run-getter in international cricket then lofted Jean-Paul Duminy over mid-on for his second six. There was a lean period when Sehwag was dismissed but Tendulkar was not the one to get bogged down for long as he hoisted Peterson over long-on for his third six to break the shackles as he entered the 80s.

The 99th international ton (48th in ODIs) came in the 36th over when he pushed a Morkel delivery to cover point for a single. It came in 92 balls with seven fours and three sixes. If Tendulkar's batting personified impeccable footwork and perfect balance, Sehwag's batting was about brute power. The very first ball of the match bowled by Steyn was hit over mid-on.

In the very next over, Morkel couldn't believe his luck when a thickish edge off Sehwag's blade flew threw the gap between wicketkeeper and first slip. It was keeper Morne van Wyk's catch but the glovesman didn't even attempt for the ball which came at a catchable height. That was the last time during the first 10 overs that South Africans enjoyed any luck. Playing on a shirtfront like strip where the ball was coming onto the bat nicely, the South African pace duo's strategy of trying to hit back of length misfired.

When Morkel tried hitting back of length, Sehwag repeatedly rocked onto the back foot to slash him over point. When he pitched it up, Sehwag drove him through mid-off. The century partnership came off 71 balls in less than an hour with Sehwag first to reach his half-century in only 44 balls with 10 boundaries. When the spinners came along, Sehwag started playing the deliveries late with the turn. Also he hit a few inside out strokes over extra cover.

It was part-time leggie Faf du Plessis who dismissed the Nawab of Najafgarh in the 18th over when he tried to cut a delivery that was too close to his body thereby dragging it on to his stumps. India lost a bit of momentum once Sehwag was gone but Tendulkar-Gambhir did well enough to add 125 runs but what followed after the dismissal of the duo was inexplicable.

India v South Africa, Group B match, Nagpur | South Africa Beats India | ICC World Cup 2011

India v South Africa, Group B match, Nagpur | South Africa Beats India | ICC World Cup 2011

In a fascinating chase, with their choking past hovering over them, South Africa held their nerve to clinch a thriller in Nagpur. Jacques Kallis and Hashim Amla set it up, AB de Villiers pushed them close, JP Duminy and Johan Botha pumped in oxygen with big hits, Faf du Plessis held one end up and Robin Peterson shoved them past the line in the final over.

sa1

They needed 13 to win and there would have been the temptation to give the ball to Harbhajan Singh, who had one over left and had given away just five in his last, but MS Dhoni plumped for Ashish Nehra. Peterson inside edged the first to the fine-leg boundary, walloped the second over wide long-on for a game-breaking hit, ran madly to get two of the third before sealing it with a scorching cover drive.

India were left ruing their sensational collapse in the batting Powerplay, when they lost four wickets for 30 runs, and crumbled from 267 for 1, in the 40th over, to be bowled out for 296. Later, Dhoni had strong words about that collapse: "You don't play for the crowd, you play for the country."

The chase had several enthralling moments: Kallis sweeping from the rough, de Villiers' skilful inside-out hits with the turn, Harbhajan giving de Villiers some lip, Dhoni's smart run-out of Kallis, Gautam Gambhir's dropped catch, du Plessis' calming influence even as the C-word hung in the air, and Peterson's stunning blows.

The game itself swung crazily on each of those moments. South Africa had just lost Amla to a delivery that reared up alarmingly from Harbhajan when Kallis deployed the sweep and the paddle scoop against the same bowler to settle the nerves. South Africa were 114 for 2 at the end of the 30 overs at the end of those sweeps and the game hung in the balance.

sa2

Dhoni got into the act to run out Kallis. The throw from Harbhajan was dying away from the off stump when Dhoni lunged across, collected and swivelled to break the stumps. With Kallis' fall, South Africa needed 124 runs from just over 14 overs and de Villiers immediately took the batting Powerplay.

The game turned again in the 40th over, Zaheer's ninth, when South Africa looted 17 runs. de Villiers ragged a reverse-sweep to the fine-leg boundary, whiplashed another over point before Duminy walloped a slower one for a straight six to leave South Africa leaving 79 runs from 60 balls. It was then Harbhajan shoved the game into a thrilling climax.

Harbhajan had been giving de Villiers lip ever since he was hit for a six in the 32nd over. Eyeballs bulged, the motormouth worked over time and de Villiers would walk away, shaking his head. That contest was consummated when Harbhajan returned in the final Powerplay over, the 41st of the innings. de Villiers struck the first blow, with an audacious reverse whack over backward point but slog swept the next one straight to midwicket to leave South Africa still needing 74 from 57.

The quarter-final scenario
  • India's defeat means they aren't yet entirely certain of making the last eight, though they should still make it barring a miracle.
  • There's a small chance of their being eliminated if the following results happen: England beat West Indies, who in turn beat India; Bangladesh win both their remaining games, while South Africa beat Ireland. In such a scenario, South Africa, Bangladesh and West Indies will be ahead of India on points, while England will be level with them. That'll bring net run rates into play, and it's here that India have a reasonably comfortable cushion - their NRR of 0.768 is well ahead of England's 0.013. India will have to lose their match by about 95 runs, and England will have to win by about the same margin for their run rate to move ahead of India's.
  • For South Africa, the win has considerably eased the pressure on them. A defeat would have left them with two must-win games - including a potentially tricky one against Bangladesh in Mirpur - but this result against India means they'll have to mess it up really badly from here to not make it to the quarter-finals. All they need is a win in either of their last two games, against Ireland and Bangladesh.

Things got tighter in the 43rd over when Harbhajan slipped a quick delivery down the leg side, past the advancing Duminy, and though Dhoni fumbled the take, he recovered to finish the stumping. India tightened the screws further when Munaf Patel trapped Morne van Wyk lbw in the 44th over, just moments after Gambhir dropped van Wyk at deep midwicket.

In the 48th over, Botha swiped Munaf through midwicket and crashed a six over the straight boundary to push South Africa ahead but fell off the next ball, miscuing a slower one over cover where Suresh Rsa3aina, the substitute fielder, took a tough catch. Zaheer gave away just four runs in the 49th over but Petersen settled the issue in the final one.

India lost the game in a manic self-destructive display in the batting Powerplay that they took in the 39th over. India were strolling at 253 for 1 but lost four wickets for 30 runs in the Powerplay and their last nine for 29 to collapse to 296.

In a sweet moment of redemption, it was the pair of Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, who bled runs with the new ball, who did the damage during this manic phase. Sachin Tendulkar fell to an across-the-line hoick, his first ugly shot of the day, in the 40th over to Morne Morkel. Steyn had a double strike in the next over: Gambhir backed outside leg and scooped a slower one to mid-off and Yusuf Pathan blasted to cover. Things got worse when Yuvraj Singh swung a full toss to long-on off the final delivery of the Powerplay, and it turned chaotic when Virat Kohli gave a tame return catch to Peterson. In the space of a few minutes, the game had spiraled out of India's control and returned to balance. Steyn even went on to complete a five-for, something that was scarcely believable when he was leaking runs with the new ball, when he cleaned up the tail.

Until that stunning phase of play, it was all India. Until then, even 375 seemed a possibility. If Virender Sehwag pumped in the adrenalin, Tendulkar oozed class. There was not a single shot that looked risky and yet he played all the shots, even a hooked six, a shot that he doesn't play too often these days. Tendulkar faced just 20 balls in the first ten overs but had raced away to 35, and his fifty came off 33 balls. It was in the eighth over, from Morkel, that he really got going with an awesome thump through the covers, which was followed by a gorgeous straight drive. Like always, he held his pose even as Morkel was down on the mat. It was a moment that perfectly caught the one-sided battle.

When Steyn fired a bouncer in the 10th over, Tendulkar unfurled a stylish hook to deposit it beyond the backward square-leg boundary. When Jacques Kallis bowled a slower one, Tendulkar glided forward and across to whip the off cutter past mid-on. Unlike Sehwag, who kept backing away to the leg to try hit everything to the off, and fell in the process, Tendulkar played the spinners as per the demands of the ball but of course on his own terms. It should have been his night but cruelly it was his shot that triggered a stunning implosion, which proved the difference in the end.

February 8th, 2011 - Morning Minute

February 8th, 2011 - Morning Minute

morning

March may be the month that comes in like a lion, but it was February that produced a lion’s share of great records in sports.

As always, we’ll take a look at some notable achievements in the world of the professionals before casting a net over some of your best efforts approved by Guinness World Records this month.

Adeus ao Fenômeno

That’s what millions of football fans in Brazil and around the world said this month: goodbye to the "Phenomenon" – as in goodbye to Ronaldo Nazário de Lima or, simply: Ronaldo. And that’s how people often said the name of one of the all-time great strikers – with a lilt of awe in the voice inspired by greatness.

februrary -1

Having announced his retirement this month (right), Ronaldo’s career spanned stints at Cruzeiro, PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Corinthians at club level. Of course, he did some of his most famous work for his national side, as an integral part of the Brazilian squads that won the FIFA World Cup in 2002, reached the final in 1998 and the quarter-final in 2006.

For his career, Ronaldo has notched a slew of records and personal achievements, but perhaps no two greater than these: the most goals scored in a FIFA World Cup career and the most wins of the FIFA World Player of the Year. His 15 poaches in World Cup competition are most ever and his three wins of the world’s best player award tie him with France’s Zinedine Zidane.

An unmatched bull on the pitch, Ronaldo and his record-breaking ways will surely be missed.
Footballing February

Some other football achievements of note this month: Barcelona saw its record winning streak in La Liga (Spain) competition snapped at 16 consecutive victories, running from 16 October 2010 to 5 February 2011. The Blaugrana outscored opponents by a combined 60-6 margin during the streak and had the victorious run bookended by a pair of 1-1 draws. …Raúl has rediscovered some of his classic touch with Schalke 04 of Germany, to the tune of now having scored the most goals in all European club competitions for a career. His goal against Valencia in the first leg of the round of 16 in this year’s Champions League took the Spaniard to 71, breaking a tie with Italy’s Filippo Inzaghi. …And the Manchester Derby between United and City in February initiated a chain of EPL matches that could very well lay claim to the most expensive sporting contests ever played. My favorite part of that story? How the price tags on these matchups cost more than what NASA spent to fix up the Hubble Telescope!

Odds and Ends

sports -2

To basketball, a few NBA records this month: Kobe Bryant (above) of the Los Angeles Lakers won his fourth NBA All-Star Game MVP award, equaling Bob Pettit for the most ever; Boston Celtics sharpshooter Ray Allen surpassed Reggie Miller for the most career 3-pointers made, and the number keeps climbing – Allen sits at 2,574 as of this posting; the Cleveland Cavaliers set a record no team ever wants a part of: most consecutive losses in NBA history. The Cavs – who lost LeBron James this past offseason – fell 26 straight times between 18 December and 11 February. Fun fact: they broke their own franchise record, as the previous mark for most consecutive defeats was also set by the Cavaliers across the 1981-82 and 1982-83 seasons. …Kevin VanDam equaled the most wins of the Bass master Classic with his fourth victory in the fishing event. He matches the four triumphs of Rick Clunn all time. …And Trevor Bayne (below) became the youngest ever winner of the Daytona 500, as he took NASCAR's most famous event at the tender age of 20 years and one day.

What You Did This Month
Some of the records certified by Guinness World Records this month:

Longest golf course: The longest golf course in the world is the par-72, 8,548 yd (7,816 m) Jade Dragon Snow Mountain Golf Club in Lijiang, China. The longest hole of the 18 is the 711-yard, par-5 fifth. An absolutely stunning course, too.

sports -4

Longest breath hold swim under ice: Nikolay Linder (Germany) swam 108 m (354 ft 4 in) under ice without the use of breathing equipment at Lake Weissensee, Austria, on 15 January 2011. The ice under which he swam was 31 cm (1 ft 0.2 in) thick and it took him 1 min 16 sec to complete the swim.

Most consecutive one-arm high bar giants: This mark of 76 was set by David Fahradyan (Armenia) at the Youth Gymnastic Sports School in Yerevan, Armenia, on 13 November 2010. A high bar giant is the completion of a full-body, 360-degree swing around a high bar, beginning and ending with a temporary handstand at the top of the rotation.

sports -5

Longest marathon playing doubles tennis: The group of Gavin White, Jeganathan Ramasamy, Simon Burk, and David Sears (all Australia) played tennis for 56 hr 37 min 13 sec at the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre in Sydney, Australia, from 10 to 12 September 2010. The group of four was able to play 22 consecutive best-of-5 matches, consisting of 78 sets and 709 games

That'll do it for February. With the Cricket World Cup ongoing, Champions League play progressing and Major League Baseball right around the corner, we should have a lot to talk about when you come back next month!

They have the best player (Maya Moore), the best coach (Geno Auriemma), the best tradition and the home court. They have won 17 straight since losing at Stanford on Dec. 30, their only loss in the last 108 games.

No. 2 DePaul (26-5, 13-3)

The Blue Demons are coached by Doug Bruno, Auriemma’s USA Basketball assistant and friend. They have an experienced team with many five- and six-year players, one of which, Deirdre Naughton, played her first college game when this year’s freshmen were still in middle school. They have great guards and an impressive front court.

No. 3 Notre Dame (24-6, 13-3)

The Irish lost their chance at the No. 2 seed by losing at DePaul on the season’s final day. For some time it appeared UConn and ND, head-to-head all season, might have to flip a coin to determine the No. 1 seed. The luck of the Irish, you know? But Muffet McGraw’s team, led by sophomore Skylar Diggins and senior Devereaux Peters, faltered a bit at the end.

No. 4 Rutgers (18-11, 11-5)

The Scarlet Knights were tied with Louisville and Marquette for the No. 4 spot before the final night of the season. Their victory over Seton Hall, coupled with losses by Louisville and Marquette, made their highest seed since 2007-08 possible. Not much changes with Rutgers. Coach C. Vivian Stringer’s teams are tough and methodical and play tight defense. They also have one player – this year it’s Khadijah Rushdan – capable of carrying the offense.

No. 5 Marquette (22-7, 10-6)

A stunning loss to Cincinnati Monday night – the Bearcats hadn’t won since Jan. 5 – cost the Golden Eagles a chance to earn a top-four seed and a double-bye. Maybe it was the 13 three-pointers Cincinnati made? Still, Marquette has a lot of experience in seniors Angel Robinson, Jasmine Collins and Paige Fiedorowicz. By the way, coach Terri Mitchell is a big Steelers fan.

No. 6 Louisville (19-11, 10-6)

Now two years removed from All-American Angel McCoughtry, the Cardinals are working their way back in the nicest new arena in the nation, the KFC Yum! Center. Future Big East tournament, anyone? They have one of the league’s most exciting freshman, Shoni Schimmel, a four-time Rookie of the Week, and a veteran core that has the experience of playing in the 2009 Final Four.

No. 7 St. John’s (20-9, 9-7)

The Red Storm began its season 12-1 and then struggled for continuity throughout the conference season. They never won more than two straight after the first of the year, mainly because they had problems scoring. Shenneika Smith and DeShena Stevens, the former Connecticut high school all-stater, took on most of that responsibility all season.

No. 8 Georgetown (21-9, 9-7)

On Nov. 27 at the Paradise Jam tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Hoyas defeated No. 4 Tennessee, 69-58, behind 28 points from sophomore Sugar Rodgers and the Big East nodded in approval. But the Hoyas also struggled down the stretch, losing 4 of 5, even though they put a bruising on UConn last Saturday before losing, 52-42.

No. 9 Syracuse (21-8, 9-7)

If there is a team in the middle of the pack with some momentum it’s the Orange. They lost big to UConn Monday night, but they had won their last five after suffering through a three-game losing streak to Notre Dame, Rutgers and DePaul. Seniors Erica Morrow, Tasha Harris and sophomore center Kayla Alexander make Syracuse a tough out.

No. 10 West Virginia (22-8, 8-8)

This is quite the interesting case study. After defeating South Florida on Jan. 22, the Mountaineers were 19-1 and the NCAA likely was looking for a spot in the Tournament to make them a top four seed. Now you wonder if they’ll even make it there after free-falling though the final month. Coach Mike Carey lost his cool after a loss at Rutgers last Saturday. No wonder.

No. 11 Providence (13-15, 6-10)

Frankly, there were two highlights for the Friars this season. On Monday, senior forward Mi-Khida Hankins hit a game-winner on a short baseline jumper with 10-seconds remaining to knock Louisville down a peg in the bracket. It was the perfect finish for Hankins, honored in a pre-game ceremony as the team’s lone senior. And on Feb. 12, the program attracted a sellout of 2,137 for the UConn game after averaging about 265 a game prior to that.

No. 12  Pittsburgh (13-16, 5-11)

No coach looks at a cloud and sees a rainbow with more clarity than Pitt’s Agnus Berenato. But not making it to the NCAAs last year, when the program was hosting an opening-round event, was crushing. And this season hasn’t been much better. Its best win of the season was at No. 14 West Virginia on Feb.  5. Its other conference wins were against Seton Hall, Providence, Cincinnati and South Florida.

No. 13 South Florida (12-18, 3-13)

November and December are usually the best months for the Bulls, but even they couldn’t rely on that this year. Early losses at Middle Tennessee State and at home to Morgan State did not bode well and they basically waded through the conference before landing one big punch Monday against No. 17 Georgetown when Leondra Doomes-Stephens scored a game- and career-high 25 points and Andrea Smith added 24.

No. 14  Villanova (11-18, 3-13)

Since the 1920s, or so it seems, the Wildcats have been a program that has relied on perimeter offense. So what does it say that Villanova was last in the Big East in scoring? The Wildcats ended the regular season with a win at Pittsburgh. They also ended it shooting 29.8 percent from three-point range and scoring nearly 1,000 points fewer (1,486) than conference leader Notre Dame (2,369).

No. 15 Cincinnati (9-19, 2-14)

The transition to becoming a head coach at Cincinnati has been exasperating for former UConn player/coach Jamelle Elliott. Losing so often, after winning so frequently, takes time to adjust to. And Elliott wasn’t even able to play with a full deck. Many injuries barely left her with enough healthy players to play ping-pong. But the Bearcats never gave up and rewarded their coach with the big win over Marquette

No. 16 Seton Hall (8-21, 1-15)

Speaking of adjustments, no one has made a bigger one that Pirates coach Anne Donovan. In 2008 in Beijing, she was coaching Sue Bird and Diana Taurasi in the Summer Olympics. Last summer, she was coaching Cappie Pondexter, Kalana Greene and Nicole Powell with the New York Liberty. This year, well, junior Tajay Ashmeade recorded the third double-double of her career Feb. 26 at Louisville.

The Big East Tournament 2011 schedule is arriving very soon for all the conference teams in search of an NCAA Tournament bid. Among the pack, the UCONN Huskies seem to be in search of some wins against

American Idol Season 10 Unveils Finalists, Sportsbooks Introduce Betting Odds

American Idol Season 10 Unveils Finalists, Sportsbooks Introduce Betting Odds

american American Idol has just unveiled the tenth set of finalists to come to this smash hit of a reality TV show, and the program did so in front of 25 million viewers. On March 3rd, the top 10 finalists and the top 3 wildcards were selected out of a field of the top 12 males and top 12 females.

The series has undergone some major changes between season 9 and season 10, but “Idol” fans were still subjected to the same form of competition. Some changes include allowing 15 year olds to audition and airing on Wednesday and Thursday instead of Tuesday and Thursday, but the biggest changes were perhaps in the judges. Simon Cowell joined the show at its launch, but ended up leaving, along with Kara DioGuardi and Ellen DeGeneres, but the first name in the list of three had really dealt a blow to the show.

In attempt to make up for the lack of Simon, the show had brought in Aerosmith front man Steven Tyler, as well as pop music’s Jennifer Lopez. Some criticism had been launched toward the producers for their selection of judges, but the two musical talents, joining with long time judge Randy Jackson, give a solid background in the industry in passing judgment on the talented hopefuls.

Seven females and six males have made it into the finals, but only a few have the talent to make it through the finals. Some of the key talents that have displayed their vocal ranges include Scotty McCreery, the deep voiced 17 year old who is almost guaranteed a record contract, Lauren Alaina, the young star in the making who has even received some positive attention from Kelly Clarkson, and Pia Toscano – a potential winner who is as pretty as she is talented.

Each competitor will have equal chances of winning due to the impartial judgments, but only the best talent will make it through the finals to be crowned the newest American Idol. Even footing is not available, however, through Bodog sportsbook, as they are offering entertainment betting odds on who they expect to win.

Fans and bettors alike can place wagers on the contestants in the American Idol Season 10 finals competition. Several types of odds are available through Bodog’s book, including who will win straight up, the gender of the winner, and who will advance further in the competition. A few other proposition bets will allow players to wager whether or not Casey Abrams and Randy Jackson will appear on stage together, as well as Paul McDonald and Rod Stewart appearing on stage together. In these cases, the musicians will have to be performing together in order for the bet to qualify.

Players must keep in mind, however, that Bodog’s decision is final.

The game was tantalisingly set till it ultimately resulted in a fantastic draw.

Australian skipper considered utilizing the Review System without having the hot spot was the main reason behind all the problems.“ The space where the ball strikes and how far it has to go just before it strikes the stumps, those kinds of situations are crucial … At the beginning of the event, when we identified they are employing the Review System minus the hot spot, it’s a bit of a surprise for us. I believe the hot spot needs to be a component of the system,”  Australian skipper insisted.

: Today’s 2011 World Cup Cricket Match between Pakistan against Kenya . Kenya vs Pakistan 2011 World Cup Cricket Match Scheduled on Wednesday, 23rd February 2011 at 14:30 local time (09:00 GMT)

Kenya play Pakistan in what will be the sixth match of the World Cup to be played at Hambantota. The game will be played on February 23.

Kenya go into the game after they lost to New Zealand in the first game at Chennai. However, what would have hurt them is that they lost the game so badly that it was a disaster. They were bowled out for their lowest total in ODI of 69 which was made by New Zealand in a hurry.

Now, Kenya will need to come up with a much better performance than they had in the previous game. The Pakistanis have a much better bowling attack and for the Kenyans to get the better of them, it will be a much difficult job.

Pakistan will need to continue with the form that they had shown in New Zealand. They did go down to England but will clearly go into the game as favourites.
